Privacy
This page says, in plain words, what LearnWave keeps about the people who use it, why we keep it, who can see it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who is responsible
LearnWave is built and operated by Arcadix GmbH, Wehntalerstrasse 20, CH-8157 Dielsdorf, Switzerland. Arcadix is the company accountable for how the data described here is handled.
What we keep about a learner
The account: a name, a username, the class, the school and its board, an email address (the learner's own or a parent's), and the password — stored only in a scrambled form that cannot be turned back into the password. We use the email only to confirm it and to send a link when the password is forgotten; we send nothing else to it. We do not ask a learner for a phone number or a photo.
The learning record: which lessons and competencies were started, completed and mastered, practice-check scores and whether each answer was right, Exam Practice papers and their results, the answers a learner writes for their teacher and the marks given, the days they studied, the Flash Round levels they cleared, and when each lesson is due for review. Also kept: the chat between the learner and the Tutor, the name and look they give their study buddy, any mistake they report in a lesson, and their settings. A photo of homework is read and then dropped: we do not keep photos.
What we keep about teachers and staff
A name, a username, an email address, the scrambled password, their role and school, and the work they set for their classes.
When a school writes to us
The form on our home page keeps the name, school, email address and message you send, and the internet (IP) address it came from, which helps us stop abuse of the form. We use it only to reply to you. So that we see it quickly, a copy goes to our own mailbox through Microsoft 365. It is not passed on to anyone else. We have not yet set an automatic time after which enquiries are deleted — ask, and we will delete yours.
Why we keep it, and what we never do
To run the account, to show a learner and their teacher where the learner stands, and to keep the service secure. Learner data is never sold. There is no advertising anywhere in LearnWave, and nothing a learner does is used to target anyone with ads.
Who can see it
The learner. Their teachers, who see their name and their work in the classes and subjects they teach them. Their school's administrator, for the pupils of that school. LearnWave's administrators at Arcadix, to run and support the service. Nobody else.
Where it is kept and who helps us
Accounts and learning records are kept in a database on a server operated by Arcadix. The website reaches you through Cloudflare, which protects it from attacks and therefore sees the traffic passing through. The two account emails (confirming an email address, and a forgotten password) are sent through Microsoft 365, so Microsoft carries the email address and the message.
Read-aloud voices and the study buddy's replies are made on our own server. The Tutor works in two ways. The free Tutor runs inside the browser on your own computer: it is downloaded once from Hugging Face, through jsDelivr, and what is typed to it is not sent to any AI company. The online Tutor is Sarvam AI, an Indian company: we send it the question, the last part of the chat, the lesson it is about and a short note on what the learner has learnt and found hard, and it writes the reply. We replace the learner's name before anything is sent. Sarvam also reads a photo of homework or of a written answer when one is sent, and suggests first marks on written answers when a teacher asks for that. Phone reminders, if you switch them on, are delivered by your browser's own push service, for example Google's or Apple's.
Cookies, browser storage and analytics
LearnWave sets one cookie of its own, to keep you signed in: it lasts at most 24 hours from signing in, or four hours for someone trying LearnWave without an account. The app also keeps a copy of your progress in your browser so that it opens quickly, any chapters you save to use without the internet (removed when you sign out), and the free Tutor if you download it.
We use Google Analytics to count visits to four public pages only — the home page, About, sign in and sign up — and only for visitors who are not signed in. It never runs for anyone using LearnWave, including someone on a trial. Google's advertising features are switched off. Google Analytics sets its own cookies on those four pages. Inside LearnWave we count, ourselves, which pages are used and for how long, with no name or account attached: each record says only the class and whether it was a learner, teacher or guest, stays in our own database and is deleted after 90 days. To join one visit's pages together, the browser keeps a random number that disappears when the tab is closed. Separately, the app adds up how many minutes you spend working on lessons each day, so that you can see your own week on the home page: it is kept with your progress, and only you see it.
Trying LearnWave without an account
Nothing about a trial is kept on our server. Progress stays in your browser, and if you then create an account in the same browser, it is carried into that account.
How long we keep it
An account and its learning record are kept while the account exists. When an account is deleted, its learning record is deleted from our database with it.
What you can ask us
You can ask to see what we keep about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted, under the DPDP Act and GDPR. A parent or guardian can ask on behalf of a child. Write to [email protected] and say which account it is about.
Children
LearnWave is used by children. That is why it shows no advertising, sells nothing about anyone, and asks a learner for no more than their lessons need. A new teacher account sees no pupil's work until one of our administrators, or the school's own administrator, has approved it.
Changes to this page
When what we keep or how we use it changes, we change this page and the date at the top.
