Nature Trail

Animals on the trail

Spot the animals on a forest trail.

In your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 3), the students ride into the forest in jeeps and see many animals. Each animal has its own features.

An elephant has a long trunk, which it uses to take food and water. The Indian Giant Squirrel is a big, red-coloured squirrel found in Pachmarhi. The Spectacled Monkey is the state animal of Tripura; it has white patches round its eyes, so it looks as if it is wearing spectacles.

At a pond, the students see gaur. A gaur looks like a buffalo, but it is stronger and has shorter horns.

We can sort the animals we see into two groups: animals on land, like monkeys, gaur and elephants, and birds in the sky, like sparrows and parakeets.

Every animal has its own features: the elephant's long trunk, the big red Indian Giant Squirrel, the Spectacled Monkey's white eye patches and the strong, buffalo-like gaur.
