How Things are Made
Paper comes from trees
Find out how paper is made from trees.
In your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 8), it is a Sunday. Pihu is busy painting in her drawing book, and her mother, Maa, is reading the newspaper. Pihu looks up and sees a picture of trees on the front page.
'Maa! It says that if we recycle paper, we can save trees. How are trees and paper related?' Maa explains that paper is made from trees. Pihu's drawing book, the newspaper, paper napkins, and even the chart paper she uses for school projects are all made from trees.
Then Pihu touches a pot at home. It looks as if it is made of paper, but it feels rough, not smooth like her drawing book. Maa tells her that this is because the pot is made from recycled paper: old paper that has been used again to make something new.
