Different Lands, Different Lives
The desert
Visit the desert with Ritika.
Ritika's holiday took her to the land of endless sand. Your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 9), says a desert is a dry place with very little rainfall.
Only some plants can grow there, because there is so little water. The cactus, the khejri and the babool can survive on very little water. The cactus even stores water in its stem, so it can last through the long dry days.
Many animals and birds live in the desert too: camels, lizards, wild cats, pythons and eagles. The camel carries people and goods across the sand, so it is called the ship of the desert.
