Different Lands, Different Lives
Life on the coast
Learn about life on the coast with Chandni.
In your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 9), Chandni tells her friends about Puri, a coastal city in Odisha. Puri has lovely sand beaches, where many artists make beautiful sand art.
On the beach you can find many kinds of sea shells. One of them is the shankh, or conch shell. It is blown during pooja in temples and in homes.
Many people who live on the coast depend on fishing to earn their living. In Chandni's scrapbook, at 7 in the morning she saw fishermen riding their boats out on the wide sea. Later she collected sea shells, and on a boat ride she saw turtles and many other wonderful creatures.
The sea is full of life. Your book names the sea turtle, the crab, the starfish and the dolphin. It also names corals and seaweed, which grow in the sea.
