Odisha's food and festivals

Learn about the food and festivals of Odisha.

In your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 9), Chandni's visit to Odisha is full of good things. People of Odisha enjoy traditional dishes such as dalma, pakhala, chhena poda and rasagola.

Chandni's scrapbook tells her day. At half past twelve, her mother bought a Sambalpuri saree, a famous saree of Odisha. In the evening, at 7 o'clock, they watched an Odissi dance performance. Odissi is the classical dance of Odisha.

Puri is also home to the Shree Jagannath Temple, one of the most popular temples in India. It is beautifully carved and has huge gates. The city is famous for the Rath Yatra, a grand chariot festival. Thousands of people joyfully pull the huge, colourful chariots of Jagannath, Subhadra and Balabhadra.

Odisha has dishes like dalma, pakhala, chhena poda and rasagola, the Sambalpuri saree and the Odissi dance, and Puri's Shree Jagannath Temple is famous for the Rath Yatra.
