Different Lands, Different Lives
Mountains
Travel to the mountains with Nayan.
Nayan's holiday took him high up into the mountains. Your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 9), says mountains are rocky landforms that rise high above the ground. They are usually cold.
Many of the Himalayan mountains are covered in snow. Mountains often have steep slopes, and they are surrounded by valleys, the low land between them. There are mountains in many parts of our country. Nayan visited Sikkim, which is in the Himalayas.
Trees such as the oak, the pine, the walnut and the chestnut grow in Sikkim. Nayan also enjoyed a ride on a yak. Yaks are commonly used there for travelling in the mountains. The traditional houses there are made of wood, with sloping roofs.
