Our School — A Happy Place
A fire drill
Learn what to do in a fire drill.
In your book, Our Wondrous World (Chapter 4), Mohit's school holds a session on fire safety. Fires do not happen often, but being prepared helps everyone feel safer and more confident. Find out where the fire extinguisher is kept in your school, and where the assembly point is: the safe place where everyone gathers.
Your book gives the steps of a safe fire drill, in this order. First, move quickly and calmly to the nearest exit. Do not panic, and do not run. Second, if there is smoke, crawl low under it with your mouth covered, to breathe cleaner air.
Third, do not hide in cupboards or bathrooms. Fourth, help others if it is safe to do so, but never go back into the building once you are outside.
Fifth, go to the assembly point and stay with your group. Sixth, once you are at the assembly point, tell the staff or teachers at once if anyone is missing or hurt.
