Energy — How Things Work

Safe with electricity

Learn how to stay safe with electricity.

Electricity is very useful, but it can also be dangerous if it is not used carefully. Your book gives five safety rules.

One: do not touch wires or parts of electrical devices when they are plugged in. Two: do not put your fingers, or things like pens or sticks, into electrical sockets.

Three: if you see broken wires or fallen electric poles, stay away and tell an adult at once! Four: do not play near electric boxes or transformers.

Five: if something looks unsafe or strange, do not try to fix it yourself — always tell an adult.

With electricity: never touch plugged-in wires, never put anything into a socket, stay away from broken wires, fallen poles, electric boxes and transformers, and tell an adult instead of fixing things yourself.
