Friendship

A good friend's qualities

Think about the qualities that make a good friend.

After the poem 'A Friend's Prayer', your book, Poorvi, lists some qualities of a good friend on page 55. There are five: loyal, helpful, kind, caring and honest. Say them, and look carefully at how each one is spelt.

A LOYAL friend always stands by you and supports you. A HELPFUL friend helps you, for example to carry a heavy bag or to finish a hard task. A KIND friend is gentle and good to you, even when you make a mistake.

A CARING friend thinks about your feelings and looks after you, like Guneet, Asma and Deepa, who held Mario up in 'The Chair'. An HONEST friend always tells the truth and never lies.

Spellings to remember: loyal (l-o-y-a-l), helpful (h-e-l-p-f-u-l, with just one l at the end), kind (k-i-n-d), caring (c-a-r-i-n-g: the e of 'care' is dropped) and honest (h-o-n-e-s-t: the h is silent).

Good friends are loyal, helpful, kind, caring and honest: a friend who never lies is honest, and a friend who always supports you is loyal.
