Listening: Kathiawar embroidery

Listen to a talk about Kathiawar embroidery.

On page 158 of your book, Poorvi, you listen to a short talk about Kathiawar embroidery — the art that Ila Sachani is so good at — and choose the correct details. Your teacher will read or play the talk; its words are on page 164. Here is what it tells, in short.

Kathiawar embroidery is a very OLD form of embroidery. It uses many BRIGHT colours, and many kinds of stitches, such as the chain stitch.

It is often seen on clothes and on things that decorate a home. On clothes, you can see it on children's caps, ghagra skirts, and men's traditional shirts.

A lot of mirror work is done in it: small mirrors are fitted in along with the stitches. The designs are mostly shapes like squares and triangles, and flower designs are used too.

Kathiawar embroidery is very old and bright, uses stitches like the chain stitch and small mirrors, is seen on caps, ghagra skirts and men's shirts, and has designs of squares, triangles and flowers.
