The Swing
Verb or noun?
Find out how one word can be a verb or a noun.
Some words can be an action word (a verb) in one sentence and a naming word (a noun) in another. On page 105 of your book, Santoor, the example is: I swing on a swing.
The first 'swing' is an action. It means to move forwards and backwards. So it is a verb. The second 'swing' is a thing you sit on. So it is a noun.
Here are more from your book. Play: 'I like to play kho-kho' (verb, an action) and 'We are going to watch a play tomorrow' (noun, a show on a stage). Dance: 'The dance begins in an hour' (noun) and 'My friends and I dance when we are happy' (verb).
Fly: 'There is a fly on the wall' (noun, a small insect) and 'My friends fly kites on 15th August' (verb). Waves: 'The waves did not let us finish our sandcastle' (noun, waves of the sea) and 'She waves to her siblings' (verb, moving her hand). Answer: 'Can you answer the questions?' (verb) and 'I know the answer' (noun).
A tip: a noun often has 'a' or 'the' before it (a swing, the waves). A verb often comes just after the person doing it (I swing, she waves).
