The Old Stag
The Monkeys' Fast
Read the picture story 'The Monkeys' Fast'.
On pages 50 and 51 of your book, Santoor, there is a picture story called 'The Monkeys' Fast'. Some speech bubbles are filled in, and some you fill in yourself. Here is what happens, in words.
The monkeys hear that the monkey king is fasting today: he will eat nothing. So they decide to fast too. No food till sunset!
Next, they collect a big heap of bananas, ready for when the sun sets. Then one monkey says there is no harm in just HOLDING the bananas, so they hold them. Then they say, let us all peel them, since it will be sunset soon. Then a monkey takes 'just one bite'... and soon they are all eating.
The sun has not set yet, but the bananas are all eaten, and banana peels lie everywhere! A monkey scratches his head and says that maybe fasting takes more self-control than they thought.
Self-control means stopping yourself from doing something you want to do. The monkeys took one small step at a time (collect, hold, peel, one bite), and each step made it harder to stop.
