Adjectives

Learn adjectives, words that describe naming words.

A naming word (a noun) names a person, place or thing: sky, children, leaves, road, vegetables.

A describing word tells us more about the naming word. It is called an adjective. In 'blue sky', the word 'blue' tells us what colour the sky is. So 'blue' is an adjective.

On page 70 of your book, Santoor, you match five describing words with five naming words. The right pairs are: blue sky, hardworking children, green leaves, pebbled road and healthy vegetables.

A pebbled road is a road covered with small, smooth stones called pebbles. Hardworking children work hard. Healthy vegetables are good for your body. In each pair, the first word is the adjective and the second word is the noun it tells us about.

An adjective is a describing word that tells us more about a noun, like 'blue' in 'blue sky'.
