Words that sound alike
Learn words that sound alike but mean different things.
Some words sound the same, but they are spelt differently and mean different things. On pages 94 and 95 of your book, Santoor, you choose the right one.
There and their. 'There' tells us about a place: There is a beautiful park in my neighbourhood. 'Their' means belonging to them: They completed their work very fast.
Two and too. 'Two' is the number 2: Two of my friends took part in the poster-making competition. 'Too' means very, or also: I was too tired after playing.
Threw and through. 'Threw' is the past of throw: The bowler threw the ball towards the batsman. 'Through' means from one side to the other: I can see the clouds through my window pane. Caught and cot. 'Caught' is the past of catch: My mother caught me eating an ice-cream at night. A 'cot' is a small bed: I sleep on a cot at my grandmother's village.
Right and write. 'Right' is a side, the opposite of left: look to your right, then left, then right again. 'Write' is what you do with a pen: Write in neat handwriting.
