Bird sanctuaries

Listen to a passage about bird sanctuaries.

On page 48 of your book, Santoor, your teacher reads out a short passage about bird sanctuaries. Here is what it tells, in our words.

Birds are beautiful creatures with feathers and wings. But for many reasons, many kinds of birds have become endangered: there are so few of them left that they could disappear for ever.

To protect these birds, bird sanctuaries have been made. A bird sanctuary is a safe place where birds can live, feed and build their nests without being harmed. India has more than 70 bird sanctuaries.

The passage names two of them. The Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary, in Tamil Nadu, is the oldest bird sanctuary in India. The Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is in Rajasthan, and it is one of the best-known bird sanctuaries in the country.

Bird sanctuaries are safe places that protect birds, many of which are endangered; India has more than 70, and Vedanthangal in Tamil Nadu is the oldest.
