Animal families
Learn the names of animal families.
On pages 71 and 72 of your book, Santoor, there are pictures of animal families. Each family has a father (the male), a mother (the female) and a baby (the young). Many animals have a different word for each.
The lion family: the father is a lion, the mother is a lioness, and the baby is a lion cub. The tiger family: the father is a tiger, the mother is a tigress, and the baby is a tiger cub.
The hen family: the father is a rooster, the mother is a hen, and the baby is a chick. The cow family: the father is a bull, the mother is a cow, and the baby is a calf.
The horse family: the father is a stallion, the mother is a mare, and the baby is a foal.
Notice that 'lioness' and 'tigress' are made by adding -ess to the father's name, but most of the others are completely different words.
